Gene Information

human ... FURIN(5045)

General description

Furin is an endoprotease and belongs to the eukaryotic subtilisin family. It is synthesized as membrane-anchored endoproteases. Furin is colocalized mainly in the trans-golgi network although it is available in between this compartment and the cell surface to some lesser extent. It is the first identified proprotein convertase.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 106-120 of human FURIN

Application

Anti-FURIN (106-120) antibody is suitable for western blot analysis at a dilution of 1:500-1:2,000.
Yale Center for High Throughput Cell Biology IF-tested antibodies. Each antibody is tested by immunofluorescence against HUVEC cells using the Yale HTCB IF protocol. To learn more about us and Yale Center for High Throughput Cell Biology partnership, visit sigma.com/htcb-if.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Furin plays a vital role in cleaving of a wide variety of proteins, including growth factors, serum proteins, including proteases of the blood-clotting and complement systems, matrix metalloproteinases, receptors, viral-envelope glycoproteins and bacterial exotoxins.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide

Proteolytic activation of the precursor envelope glycoproteins gp160 of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and gp140 of HIV-2, a prerequisite for viral infection, results in the formation of gp120/gp41 and gp125/gp36, respectively. Cleavage is mediated by cellular proteases. Furin
