D-Mannoheptulose, a heptose, may be used as a hexokinase inhibitor (like glucosamine) in studies involving glucose response, glucose metabolism, glucose signaling and glucose sensing mechanisms. Analogs of D-mannoheptulose may be developed for use in noninvasive imaging of pancreatic beta cells.
