Gene Information

mouse ... Prph2(19133)

General description

Peripherin-2 (UniProt: P15499; also known as Retinal degeneration slow protein) is encoded by the Prph2 (also known as Rds) gene (Gene ID: 19133) in murine species. Peripherin-2 is a multi-pass membrane glycoprotein found in the outer segment of both rod and cone photoreceptor cells. It is localized to the photoreceptor disc rim region and is required for the initial formation and subsequent maintenance of both rod and cone outer segments. It can function as an adhesion molecule for stabilization and compaction of outer segment disks and the maintenance of the curvature of the rim. Mutations Prph2 gene are reported to cause incurable retinal degeneration. Peripherin-2 can form a wide variety of covalent and non-covalent homo- and heteromeric complexes and failure to oligomerize properly can result in protein degradation and retinitis pigmentosa.

Specificity

Clone 2B7 detects peripherin-2 in murine and bovine eye. It targets an epitope within 23 amino acids from the C-terminal end.

Immunogen

KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to 23 amino acids from the C-terminal region of murine Peripherin-2.

Application

Anti-Peripherin-2, clone 2B7, Cat. No. MABN2395, is a highly specific mouse monoclonal antibody that targets Peripherin-2/RDS and has been tested in Immunocytochemistry, Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin), and Western Blotting.

The large number of inherited retinal disease genes (IRD), including the photopigment rhodopsin and the photoreceptor outer segment (OS) structural component peripherin 2 (PRPH2), has prompted interest in identifying common cellular mechanisms involved in degeneration. Although metabolic dysregulation has been
