General description

The protein named Sec23a, also known as Sec23r, and encoded by the gene Sec23a/Sec23/Sec23r is a component of the COPII coat complex; this complex is the complex that governs ER-derived vesicles involved in transport from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus. The transport of proteins in eukaryotic cells from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi complex proceeds by deformation of specialized portions of the donor membrane to form carrier vesicles. A group of cytosolic proteins collectively known as COPII carry out a programmed set of sequential interactions, leading to cargo sorting and vesicle budding. The Sec23A protein is critical to proper protein transport in and out of cells, and it is localized to the smooth endoplasmic reticulum membrane where it is a peripheral membrane protein and interacts with the Golgi apparatus membranes as well. Sec23A is expressed at high levels in brain and fibroblasts as well as liver and other metabolically active tissues. Sec23A interacts with SEC23IP, HTR4, SEC16A and SLC6A proteins. Sec23A also appears to play a role directly in development as recent research linked Sec23A promoters to important developmental transcription factors such as TFII-1 and showed that important craniofacial and dental developmental genes could contribute to the WBS-specific facial dysmorphism in Williams-Beuren syndrome.

Immunogen

Linear peptide corresponding to mouse Sec23A.

Application

Detect Sec23a using this rabbit polyclonal antibody, Anti-Sec23A Antibody validated for use in western blotting.
Western Blotting Analysis: 1 µg/mL from a representative lot detected Sec23A in 10 µg of mouse heart, thymus, pancreas, testis, and adrenal gland tissues.

Western Blotting Analysis: A representative lot from an independent laboratory detected Sec23A in various mouse tissues expressing wildtype Sec23A (Tao, J., et al. (2012). Proc Natl Acad Sci USA. 109(29):E2001-2009.).

Quality

Evaluated by mouse brain tissue lysate.

Western Blotting Analysis: 1 µg/mL of this antibody detected Sec23A in 10 µg of mouse brain tissue lysate.

Target description

~86 kDa observed. Uncharacterized band(s) may be observed in some cell lysates.
