General description

A benzamide compound that activates the histone acetyltransferase (HAT) activity of p300/EP300/E1A binding protein 300 in a dose-dependent manner (~6-fold of basal HAT activity of recombinant human p300 toward purified HeLa core histones in the presence of 250 µM CTB). SERS spectrum indicates that CTB interacts with p300 preferentially via the amide groups of the α-helix and β-sheets, resulting in altered enzyme conformation, which presumably accounts for the increased enzymatic activity.
