General description

1,2-didecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (10:0 PE) is a soluble short-chain phospholipid.

Application

1,2-didecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (10:0 PE) may be used as an internal standard for the quantitative analysis of phospholipids by electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS). It may also be used to titrate the lantibiotic cinnamycin (Ro 09-0198) in isothermal titration calorimetry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) controls membrane fluidity in eukaryotic cells.

Cinnamycin (Ro 09-0198) is a tetracyclic peptide antibiotic that binds specifically to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). Formation of a complex with phosphatidylethanolamine follows a 1:1 stoichiometry. Using high-sensitivity isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), we have measured the thermodynamic parameters of complex formation for

D-beta-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH) is a lecithin-requiring mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate. The purified soluble enzyme devoid of lipid (i.e., the apodehydrogenase) can be reactivated with soluble lecithin or by insertion into phospholipid vesicles containing lecithin.

In mammals, cytosolic phospholipases A2 (cPLA2s) play important physiological roles by releasing arachidonic acid, a precursor for bioactive lipid mediators, from the biological membranes. In contrast, fungal cPLA2-like proteins are much less characterized and their roles have remained elusive. AoPlaA

Adequate membrane fluidity is required for a variety of key cellular processes and in particular for proper function of membrane proteins. In most eukaryotic cells, membrane fluidity is known to be regulated by fatty acid desaturation and cholesterol, although some
