General description
16:0 TopFluor™ cholesterol carries saturated acyl chains. Approximately 30-40% of the mammalian plasma membrane consists of cholesterol. TopFluor™ has a moiety, called dipyrromethene boron difluoride. This fluorescent molecule is covalently attached to various lipid molecules.
Application
16:0 TopFluor™ cholesterol may be used to study its diffusion with phospholipid analogs in model membrane in order to understand cholesterol dynamics at the nanoscale in biomembranes.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Cholesterol participates in various signaling processes. It also helps in shaping the structure of molecular membrane.
