General description

Potassium nitrate (KNO3) is a water-soluble inorganic salt that is commonly used as a source of nitrate.

Application

Potassium nitrate can be used in the following:
  • KNO3/Al2O3 is used as a solid base catalyst to synthesize by vapor-phase methylation of catechol with dimethyl carbonate.
  • KNO3/cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) catalytic system is used in the oxidation of benzyl halides to aldehydes and ketones in aqueous media.
  • In the Cu/CeO2 catalytic system, KNO3 can also be utilized as a promoter to enhance the soot oxidation activity and resistance to sulfur poisoning of the catalyst.
