General description

Benzoyl peroxide participates in the covalent insitu functionalization of carbon nanotubes. On heating, it undergoes decomposition to afford phenyl free radicals and CO2 gas.
Luperox® A98, Benzoyl peroxide, an anhydrous benzoyl peroxide powder, is a mainly used as a thermal free radical initiator in polymerization reactions.

Application

Benzoyl peroxide has been used as an initiator in the preparation of the following:
  • Thermal cross-linking of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) via radical-initiated reaction
  • 3-D crosslinked carbon scaffolds
  • poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA), MWCNT and singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) scaffolds
Widely used initiator, curing agent, and cross-linking agent in polymerization processes.

We report a simple method to fabricate macroscopic, 3-D, free standing, all-carbon scaffolds (porous structures) using multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as the starting materials. The scaffolds prepared by radical initiated thermal crosslinking, and annealing of MWCNTs possess macroscale interconnected pores
