Application

2,5-Furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a renewable, greener substitute for terephthalate in the production of polyesters. It is widely used as a precursor for the synthesis of bio-based polyesters and various other polymers.

Applications of FDCA in the synthesis of several metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have also been reported.

Other Notes

2,5-Furandicarboxylic acid has been included among Top 10 biorefinery carbohydrate derivatives for the production of biobased industrial products.

Poly(butylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate) (PBF) constitutes a new engineering polyester produced from renewable resources, as it is synthesized from 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (2,5-FDCA) and 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BD), both formed from sugars coming from biomass. In this research, initially high-molecular-weight PBF was synthesized by applying

The worldwide regulatory demand for the elimination of non-phthalate compounds for poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) plasticization has intensified the search for alternatives. Concomitantly, sustainability concerns have highlighted sugar-based 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid as one key renewable-chemical for the development of several products, namely
