General description

Ammonium dichromate is a hexavalent chromium compound with a high oxidation potential. Hexavalent chromium is potent carcinogen and an environmental pollutant.

Application

Ammonium dichromate may be used in the following processes:
  • Oxidation of alcohols in the presence of Mg(HSO4)2 (magnesium hydrogen sulfate) and wet SiO2 (silicon dixide).
  • Preparation of Cr2O3/Al2O3 (chromium (III) oxide/aluminium oxide) catalysts.
  • Oxidative coupling of thiols.
  • Preparation of mesoporous molecular sieves.
  • Preparation of polypyrrole (PPy).
  • Preparation of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) interconnect.
