Mitochondrial fission process 1/mitochondrial 18 kDa protein (MTFP1/MTP18), a nuclear-encoded integral protein, is located in the mitochondria. It is also a phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-dependent protein. MTP18 comprises three α-helical stretches or transmembrane (TM) domains of high hydrophobicity. The MTFP1 gene is located on human chromosome 22q12.2.
Specificity
The antibody detects endogenous levels of total MTFP1 protein.
Immunogen
Fusion protein corresponding to a region derived from internal residues of human mitochondrial fission process 1
Application
Anti-MTFP1 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blot (1:1000).[1]
Biochem/physiol Actions
Mitochondrial fission process 1/mitochondrial 18 kDa protein (MTFP1/MTP18) controls mitochondrial fission Hence it helps to maintain the morphology of the mitochondria. Overexpression of MTP18 can facilitate fragmentation of the mitochondria. Loss-of-function of MTFP1 protein promotes cell death. It is crucial for cell viability.

Mitochondria are dynamic organelles that change morphology by controlled fission and fusion events. Mitochondrial fission is regulated by a conserved protein complex assembled at the outer membrane. Human MTP18 is a novel nuclear-encoded mitochondrial membrane protein, implicated in controlling mitochondrial

BRCA1-mutated breast cancer is associated with basal-like disease; however, it is currently unclear if the presence of a BRCA1 mutation depicts a different entity within this subgroup. In this study, we compared the molecular features among basal-like tumors with and

We identified a novel human cDNA encoding a mitochondrial protein, MTP18 (mitochondrial protein, 18 kDa) as a transcriptional downstream target of phosphatidylinositol (PI) 3-kinase signaling. We demonstrate that MTP18 mRNA as well as protein expression is dependent on PI 3-kinase
Telomeres constitute the ends of linear chromosomes and together with the shelterin complex form a structure essential for genome maintenance and stability. In addition to the constitutive binding of the shelterin complex, other direct, yet more transient interactions are mediated

Accumulation of reactive oxygen species is a common phenomenon in cardiac stress conditions, for instance, coronary artery disease, aging-related cardiovascular abnormalities, and exposure to cardiac stressors such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Mitochondrial protein 18 (Mtp18) is a novel mitochondrial inner
