General description

Research area: Immunology & cytokines

Application

Pentagastrin has been used to bidirectionally modulate lateral nucleus of the amygdala (LA) activity.[1] It has also been used as a cholecystokinin-2 receptor (CCK2R) agonist to block the receptor binding for Ga-DOTA-MGS5 in AR42J rat pancreatic cell lines during cell uptake and receptor binding studies.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Pentagastrin, a synthetic polypeptide is a gastrin analog. It contains the five C-terminal amino acids of gastrin.[3] It acts as a cholecystokinin-2 (CCK2) receptor/ cholecystokinin-B (CCKB) receptor agonist.[4] Pentagastrin stimulates the secretion of pepsin and gastric acid.[3] It also aids in the evaluation of gastric acid secretory function.[5] Pentagastrin exhibits panicogenic/ anxiogenic effects and thereby induces panic attacks in panic disorder (PD) patients.[4]

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. How can Pentagastrin, Product B1636, solutions be stored?

    1 answer
    1. Pentagastrin is subject to oxidation in solution.  A pentagastrin solution in DMF can be stored frozen to protect the TRP and MET from oxidation. Further protection from oxidation can be insured if the solution is prepared with degassed solvent and the solution is stored under an inert gas such as argon or dry nitrogen gas.
