General description

β-Tubulin IV codes for β-tubulin 4A (TUBB4A). TUBB4A is expressed in the central nervous system by oligodendrocytes. It is located on human chromosome 19p13.3.
Microtubules are heterodimeric proteins that comprise of α- and β-tubulins. β-tubulins have four different isotypes in brain cells, ranging from β I to β IV . Anti-tubulin antibodies are useful to study the localization of tubulin proteins. Monoclonal Anti-β-Tubulin IV antibody is specific for epitope located in the C-terminal sequence of β-tubulin isotype IV in humans, bovines, hamsters, rats, mice and chickens. The product does not react with other tubulin isotypes.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminal sequence of β-tubulin isotype IV, conjugated to BSA.

Monoclonal Anti-β-Tubulin IV antibody has been used in immunostaining.
Monoclonal Anti-β-Tubulin IV antibody is suitable for use in immunohistochemistry (formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections), indirect ELISA, microarray and western blot (1:400 using cultured human breast adenocarcinoma cell line MCF-7). The product may also be used for immunocytochemistry and immunofluorescence .

Biochem/physiol Actions

β-Tubulin IV creates the oligodendrocyte microtubule network, that helps in the transport of myelin proteins, lipids and RNA at the time of myelination. It participates in the generation of early fibrotic stages. TUBB4 plays a major role in the transport and proper localization of N-cadherin within the plasma membrane.

Microtubules of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton are composed of a heterodimer of α- and β-tubulin. In addition to α-and β-tubulin, several other tubulins have been identified, bringing the number of distinct tubulin classes to seven.
