General description

The folate receptor 1 (FOLR1) gene encodes for folate receptor α protein, a membrane-bound glycoprotein. The FOLR1 gene is mapped on the human chromosome at 11q13.4. Anti-FOLR1 antibody detects endogenous levels of total FOLR1 protein.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human FOLR1.

Immunogen Range: 41-90

Biochem/physiol Actions

Folate receptor α protein binds and facilitates the transport of folate into the cells. This protein acts as a therapeutic target as well as a prognostic marker for various kinds of cancers. Upregulation of the FOLR1 gene is associated with ovarian, lung, breast, brain, colorectal, and gastric cancers.
