Biochem/physiol Actions
In the cell, the p53 protein binds to DNA, leading to the activation of another gene that produces the p21 protein. This protein interacts with a cell division-stimulating protein (cdk2), preventing the cell from progressing to the next stage of cell division. Mutation in p53 protein leads to uncontrolled cell division resulting in tumor formation.[1] The p53 protein is suggested to impede the phenotypic and genomic changes linked to cancer development through its intricate interaction with various signaling pathways including cell division, genomic stability maintenance, apoptosis, autophagy, immune response, and tumor microenvironment regulation.[2]
