General description

Menthol is an alcohol extracted from various mint oils or prepared synthetically. It exists in two forms: levorotatory (l-menthol), which can be found in natural or synthetic sources, and racemic (dl-menthol).

Application

Menthol USP reference standard, intended for use in specified quality tests and assays as specified in the USP compendia. Also, for use with USP monographs such as:
  • Menthol Lozenges
  • Tetracaine and Menthol Ointment
  • Benzocaine and Menthol Topical Aerosol®
  • Anethole
