Fenobucarb is a carbamate insecticide that is used to control a range of biting and sucking insects in rice and other crops. It is widely applied on farmlands to improve crop yield and preserve agricultural products. Fenobucarb effectively controls leaf hoppers, leaf rollers, thrips, and stem borers in paddy fields through inhibiting activity of acetylcholine esterase (AChE) enzyme, causing muscle spasm and paralysis of insects.

The Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) of fenobucarb recommended by the Global Agriculture Information Network is 0.005 mg/kg of body weight. Fenobucarb is not approved for use in European Union (EU) as per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. A default MRL of 0.01 mg/kg has been set according to Art 18(1)(b) Reg 396/2005.

Application

Fenobucarb may be used as reference material for the following:

  • Method development and validation for simultaneous determination of fenobucarb enantiomers in vegetables, crops, soils, and water by UPLC-MS/MS using a Daicel IG-3 chiral column
  • Method development for determination of fenobucarb residues in vegetable samples using screen-printed carbon electrode modified with graphene nanoribbons-ionic liquid-cobalt phthalocyanine composites based on flow injection analysis (FIA)
  • Quantification of fenobucarb residues in animal (porcine muscle, egg, and whole milk) and aquatic (eel, flatfish, and shrimp) food products using QuEChERS extraction and liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS-MS)
  • Development of an electrochemical screening assay for the detection of 4 phenyl carbamates in grains samples and comparing the data with UHPLC-MS/MS
  • Quantitative analysis of fenobucarb residues in beef muscles using QuEChERS method and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry
