Application

Potassium citrate tribasic monohydrate has been used in interconnected porous carbon nanosheets (IPCNs) synthesis. It has also been used to study the use of clinical-grade Garcinia cambogia in Drosophila kidney stone models.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Potassium citrate can be used to prepare citrate water that supports the survival of streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic mice. It might reduce the successive stone formation in calcium nephrolithiasis. Potassium citrate serves as an activator for producing activated carbons.

Potassium citrate is prescribed to decrease stone recurrence in patients with calcium nephrolithiasis. Citrate binds intestinal and urine calcium and increases urine pH. Citrate, metabolized to bicarbonate, should decrease calcium excretion by reducing bone resorption and increasing renal calcium reabsorption.
