Gene Information

human ... SERPINA3(12)

General description

SERPINA3 (serpin family A member 3) is a widely expressed protein that belongs to the serpin superfamily. It is synthesized by hepatocytes, bronchial epithelial cells and neuronal cells. It consists of a highly conserved fold and three β-sheets along with ~8 α-helices. In addition to the α, β region, it has a solvent-exposed stretch of amino acids called as the reactive center loop (RCL).

Immunogen

Alpha-1-antichymotrypsin precursor recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Application

Anti-SERPINA3 antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project . Each antibody is tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues. These images can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. The antibodies are also tested using immunofluorescence and western blotting. To view these protocols and other useful information about Prestige Antibodies and the HPA, visit sigma.com/prestige.

Biochem/physiol Actions

SERPINA3 (serpin family A member 3) controls the release of leukocyte proteases during an inflammatory response. It has inhibiting nature for several proteases such as mast cell chymase, pancreatic chymotrypsin, human glandular kallikrein 2, kallikrein 3 (prostate-specific antigen), pancreatic cationic elastase and an uncharacterized lung serum protease. It inhibits the function of neutrophil cathepsin G, a pro-inflammatory enzyme and mast cell chymase, which is responsible for the conversion of angiotensin-1 to the active angiotensin-2. SERPINA3 also restricts inflammation, coagulation and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. Overexpression of the protein is responsible for Alzheimer disease and cerebral amyloid encephalopathy. Deficiency of SERPINA3 causes lung and liver disease.

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.
