General description
Mandipropamid is a non-systemic, foliar fungicide belonging to the class of carboxylic acid amides. It is highly active against most foliar oomycete pathogens such as Phytophthora infestans (potato and tomato late blight), Plasmopara viticola (grape downy mildew), and Pseudoperonospara cubensis (cucumber downy mildew). Mandipropamid exerts its fungicidal activity by targeting cellulose synthases, thus inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis in the oomycetes. Being rapidly adsorbed to the wax layer of the plant surface, mandipropamid provides a rainfast and long-lasting barrier to fungal diseases.
According to Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 mandipropamid is approved for use in European Union (EU). A maximum residue level (MRL) for the presence of mandipropamid (any ratio of constituent isomers) is set according to Regulation (EU) 2020/1565, from 0.01 mg/kg to 30 mg/kg for plant-based products and 0.01 mg/kg to 0.05 mg/kg for products of animal origin. Mandipropamid has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
Application
- To develop an analytical method for the detection of mandipropamid residues in sesame leaves using high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC/UVD)
- To examine the effect of fungicide residues - cyazofamid, famoxadone, mandipropamid, and valifenalate on the aroma composition of Vitis vinifera – white grapes of the Godello variety
- To investigate the differences in the bioaccumulation and activity changes of the detoxification enzymes in earthworms (Eisenia fetida) after exposure to R-(-)- and S-(+)-mandipropamid for 42 days in artificial soil
- To investigate the fate and enantioselective behavior of mandipropamid enantiomers in grapes following the field application and, in the wine-making process
- Enantioselective method for the determination of mandipropamid in vegetables (potato and pepper) and fruits (grape and watermelon) by chiral LC coupled with MS/MS
