Description générale

Calpain small subunit 1 (Capns1) is a small regulatory subunit associated with the μ-calpain (calpain 1) and m-calpain (calpain 2). The CAPNS1 gene is mapped to human chromosome 19q13.12.

Immunogène

purified calpain from human placenta.

Application

Monoclonal Anti-m/μ Calpain, Small Subunit antibody produced in mouse has been used in immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting.

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Calpain small subunit 1 (Capns1) participates in the actin cytoskeleton rearrangement and cell migration events. It is crucial for embryonic development. Capns1 interacts with the Ras GTPase activating protein Src homology 3 domain (SH3) (RasGAP-SH3) domain to regulate cell migration and cell survival. It is essential for calpain activity. Capns1 is associated with the oncogenesis of many tumor types including hepatocellular, colorectal, ovarian, and breast cancer.

Forme physique

Solution in 0.02 M sodium phosphate, pH 7.5, and 0.15 M sodium chloride containing 50% glycerol and 3 mM sodium azide.

The calpain family is a group of cysteine proteases unique in their dependency on calcium to attain functionally active forms. Calpains are involved in a wide range of cellular calcium-regulated functions, including signal transduction, cell proliferation and differentiation, and apoptosis.
