Description générale

BATF3, also known as Basic leucine zipper transcriptional factor ATF-like 3, B-ATF-3, 21 kDa small nuclear factor isolated from T-cells, or Jun dimerization protein p21SNFT, and encoded by the gene BATF3/SNFT, is an AP-1 family transcription factor that controls the differentiation of CD8+ thymic conventional dendritic cells in the immune system. BATF3 is required for the development of CD8-alpha+ classical dendritic cells (cDCs) and related CD103+ dendritic cells that cross-present antigens to CD8. BATF3 acts via the formation of a heterodimer with JUN family proteins that recognizes and bind the DNA sequence 5′-TGA[CG]TCA-3′ and thus regulates the expression of the target genes. BATF3 is localized to the nucleus. BATF3 is expressed in myeloid dendritic cells and T cell precursor immune cells primarily.
