Gene Information

human ... ITGAV(3685)

General description

The product of this gene belongs to the integrin alpha chain family. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain. This gene encodes the integrin alpha V chain. Alpha chain V undergoes post-translational cleavage in the extracellular domain to yield disulfide-linked light and heavy chains that join with beta 1 to form a fibronectin receptor. In addition to adhesion, integrins are known to participate in cell-surface mediated signalling.

Specificity

Reacts with the human integrin alphaVbeta5.

Immunogen

Human UCLA P3 cells (lung carcinoma)

Application

Inhibition of attachment of HT29 cells to vitronectin: >1:1,000

Inhibition of attachment of carcinoma and melanoma cells to vitronectin.

Immunohistochemistry: for use on acetone or paraformaldehyde fixed tissue. (Staining of formalin-fixed tissues REQUIRES boiling tissue sections in 1mM EDTA, pH 8.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 min.)

Immunocytochemistry: 1:1500. For use on human carcinomas, normal epithelium and keratinocytes (Acetone Fixed Only).

Immunoprecipitation
