General description

1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-propanol is a solution-phase peptide chemistry solvent.[1] This fluorinated polar solvent of high ionizing power facilitates Friedel–Crafts-type reactions, using covalent reagents in the absence of a Lewis acid catalyst.[2] It also enhances the efficiency of rhodium(I)-catalyzed [4+2] intramolecular cycloaddition of ether-tethered alkynyl dienes and [5+2] cycloaddition of alkynyl vinylcyclopropanes.[3] 1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-propanol clusters catalyzes the epoxidation of cyclooctene and 1-octene with hydrogen peroxide.[4]

Application

1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-propanol was used for preparing hexafluoroalcohol-functionalized methacrylate polymers for lithographic/nanopatterning materials[5].

In fluorinated alcohols, the cationic Rh(I) species, which is derived from [Rh(COD)Cl]2 and AgSbF6, efficiently catalyzed intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition reactions of ester-tethered 1,3-diene-8-yne derivatives. The catalytic system was also effective in intramolecular [5+2] cycloaddition reactions of ester-tethered omega-alkynyl vinylcyclopropane compounds.

Questions

1–10 of 13 Questions
  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. Does this material have traces of trifluoroacetone, and if so what % or ppm?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not tested for the presence of Trifluoroacetone.

  4. It is supplied in a pressurized metal can in powder form, and once we store it in the refrigerator, it becomes a liquid. However, it doesn't seem to have a resealable container based on its appearance. Do you have any storage suggestions after opening it?

    1 answer
    1. This product is a liquid, with a melting point of ?4 °C and a density of 1.596 g/mL. The liquid is packaged in an amber glass bottle with a polypropylene screw cap. In order to preserve the quality of the product, as well as protect it from damage, the bottle is placed in a metal overpack can. This can is not under pressure. Dry material within the can is NOT the product, but is simply absorbent packing material should breakage occur.

  5. Why is the pack size in grams when it is a liquid?

    1 answer
    1. This item is a neat or pure liquid that is sold by weight rather than volume. The melting/freezing point is approximately -4°C. The density of this material is 1.596 g/mL at 25 °C.

  6. Is this product packaged under inert gas?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not stored under inert gas. The label recommends storing in the refrigerator prior to opening. This is to alleviate some of the built up pressure. Long term storage is at room temperature.

  7. Is this material deuterated or normal? Please confirm

    1 answer
    1. This product is not deuterated. A deuterated version of this chemical is product number 411302: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/US/en/product/aldrich/411302
