General description

Silane-Prep Slides are microscope slides coated with silane (aminoalkysilane) to improve the adhesion of tissues to the slide for immunohistochemistry. The slide includes a "frosted end" for slide/patient identification. It is not tested for use in microarray assays.

Application

Silane-Prep Slides have been used in:

  • Immunofluorescence microscopy of DNA fibers.[1]
  • Immunohistochemistry.[2][3]
  • The determination of hybridization stringency.[4]

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. Are there any slides that are coated with silane for microarray experiments coated with either 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate OR (3-acryloxypropyl) trimethoxy silane.

    1 answer
    1. The Silane Prep Slides (S4651) are coated with 3-Aminopropyl)triethoxysilane, also known as APTS or APTES. The linear formula is H2N(CH2)3Si(OC2H5)3. There is no information on any other slides coated with either 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate or (3-acryloxypropyl) trimethoxy silane.

      Helpful?

  2. Are there any slides for purchase which are coated with APTES?

    1 answer
    1. APTES goes by various synonyms and is referred as Silane-Prep Slides, with 72 slides per box under catalog number S4651-72ea.

      Helpful?

  3. Are the Silane Prep slides S4651 positively charged?

    1 answer
    1. Yes, the Silane Prep Slides (S4561) are considered positively charged slides due to the silane coating, which results in a covalent bond forming between the glass and the cells or tissue, preventing them from falling off during staining procedures.

      Helpful?

  4. if there was any further technical/analytical documentation about S4651 product. was there any measurement of water contact angle? Or percent coverage of the surface of the silane molecules? Or average relative orientation of the silane molecules? Also, what specific silane is on the surface? The online documentation for S4651 mentions 'aminoalkylsilane', but is this for example, (3-aminopropyl) trimethoxy silane? Or (3-aminopropyl) triethoxy silane?

    1 answer
    1. Most of the information is proprietory and hence cannot be answered. The specific silane used is A3648 (3-Aminopropyl)triethoxysilane
