Cholesterol, a crucial sterol and lipid component, is present in cell membranes and circulates in the bloodstream of all animals. It plays essential roles in maintaining cell membrane structure, hormone synthesis, and facilitating cell signaling processes. The intricate regulation of cellular cholesterol levels is paramount, as imbalances have been linked to conditions such as obesity and heart disease. Moreover, heightened cholesterol uptake has been correlated with the rapid proliferation of cancer cells. Through monitoring cellular cholesterol uptake, researchers can delve into these pressing health concerns, advancing both drug discovery efforts and biochemical research aimed at identifying potential treatment modalities.
Application
The Cholesterol Uptake Assay Kit may be used for:
Drug Discovery
Cardiovascular Research
Obesity Research
Cancer Research
Features and Benefits
Simplified Process: Experience a streamlined procedure as cell treatment occurs directly in the fluorescence 96-well plate, saving time and effort.
High-Throughput Compatibility: Seamlessly integrate the kit into high-throughput handling systems for enhanced efficiency and accuracy.
Suitability
Suitable for testing cholesterol uptake by adherent cells, screening of cholesterol uptake inhibitors, and evaluation of effect of drugs on cholesterol uptake.
Principle
The cholesterol uptake assay kit is based on cellular uptake of a fluorescently tagged cholesterol probe. The fluorescence intensity measured at λex/em = 485/535 nm is proportional to the amount of cholesterol uptaken by the cells.
