General description

Sodium iodide is an ionic compound that can be prepared by treating sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate with hydriodic acid. It is a versatile reagent used as an iodide source in organic synthesis.

Application

Sodium iodide can be used as a catalyst :
  • To synthesize α-alkoxylated ketones.
  • For N-tert-butoxy carbonylation of amines.
It can also be used as a reagent for the conversion of aryl amines to aryl iodides.
