Superoxide dismutase activity as a measure of hepatic oxidative stress in cattle following ethionine administration.: This study evaluates the hepatic oxidative stress in cattle induced by ethionine administration by measuring superoxide dismutase activity. The findings suggest a significant oxidative response, highlighting the role of DL-Ethionine in studying liver oxidative mechanisms (Abd Ellah et al., 2009).
Biochem/physiol Actions
DL-Ethionine is a racemic mixture of the anti-methylation agent L-Ethionine and its enantiomer D-Ethionine. DL-Ethionine is used as a dietary supplement to accelerate cholangiocarcinogenesis in vivo. DL-Ethionine is used to induce oxidative stress in liver to study the levels and activities of anti-oxidative enzymes and compounds such as glutathione.

Sake yeasts are ideally suited for sake making, producing higher levels of ethanol, proliferating at lower temperatures, and producing greater levels of various aromatic components and nutrients than laboratory yeasts. To elucidate the mechanism underlying S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) accumulation in sake

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) incidence and mortality are increasing in the United States and worldwide. ICC etiologies involve chronic inflammation. We hypothesize that the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent sulindac may prevent ICC by targeting cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 (COX-1, -2) as well as
Upregulation of osteopontin (OPN) has been found in hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs) in several liver diseases with portal biliary proliferation. Here, we investigated the role of HPC-derived autocrine OPN in regulating HPC expansion, migration, and hepatocarcinogenesis in mice. Five-week-old, weighing
Liver fibrosis, hepatocellular necrosis, inflammation, and proliferation of liver progenitor cells are features of chronic liver injury. Mouse models have been used to study the end-stage pathophysiology of chronic liver injury. However, little is known about differences in the mechanisms

The goal of this study was to assess if oxidative stress, as measured by alterations in the concentrations of antioxidant enzymes in the liver and erythrocytes of cattle, could be induced following dl-ethionine administration. Whole blood, serum and liver biopsy
