Prallethrin is an insecticide that belongs to the family of non-fluorinated pyrethroids and is used against mosquitoes, houseflies, termites, and other insect vectors. It acts by modulating the sodium channels present across the axonal membranes in neurons.
As per the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009, repealing the directive 91/414/EEC, prallethrin is not approved for use as a plant protection agent in the European Union.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
The prallethrin CRM may also find the following uses:

  • Determination of seven pyrethroids and piperonyl butoxide in indoor air following their passive sampling by a method combining thermal desorption with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)
  • Multi-residue analysis of 8 pesticides in bovine, chicken, and swine muscle and liver samples by a method coupling modified QuEChERS extraction to LC-MS/MS
  • Analysis of 60 pesticide residues in various vegetable and fruit samples by solid-phase extraction (SPE) and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography/time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-TOF/MS)
  • Development of an electron ionization gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method to determine l3 pyrethroid insecticide residues in whole blood samples
  • Simultaneous evaluation of nine pyrethroids in household pyrethroid products (mosquito coils and aerosols) by capillary gas chromatography with FID detection
  • Study the analysis of nine pyrethroids by combining hollow fiber-based liquid-phase microextraction (HF-LPME) with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) in water samples
