General description
Urea, the primary end product of protein breakdown in animals, is mainly synthesized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. It plays a crucial role in eliminating toxic ammonia from the body. Widely utilized in agriculture as a fertilizer and in animal feed, urea levels in milk are monitored to assess dietary protein intake for animals. Additionally, trace amounts of urea are present in various fermented foods and beverages. Assessing urea levels is valuable in biochemical and biomedical research, particularly for evaluating kidney function. Elevated urea levels are commonly linked to conditions like nephritis, renal ischemia, urinary tract obstruction, and certain extrarenal ailments such as congestive heart failure, liver diseases, and diabetes. Conversely, decreased levels may indicate acute hepatic insufficiency, although they can also result from overly aggressive parenteral fluid therapy.
Application
The Urea (BUN) Quick Test Strips are designed for determining urea levels in the following applications:
- Food and Beverage Testing
- Agriculture Testing
- Biological samples such as plasma, serum, and urine.
Features and Benefits
- Rapid and Sensitive: Provides swift results using just 20 μL of sample for semi-quantitative measurement across a range of 0-1500 mg/L (undiluted) Urea, ensuring quick and accurate analysis.
- Efficient: Sample treatment and assay completion take less than 15 minutes, saving time and enhancing productivity.
- User-Friendly: Convenient test strip design removes the need for a plate or cuvette reader, simplifying the testing process and making it accessible for users of all skill levels.
Suitability
This kit is suitable for the detection Urea (BUN) in a variety of food and beverage samples.
Principle
The Urea (BUN) Quick Test Strips are based on the urease catalyzed conversion of urea to ammonium and carbon dioxide. The pH of the reaction medium is monitored by a chromogen and the intensity of the product color is directly proportional to the urea concentration in the sample. The Urea (BUN) Quick Test strips allow for rapid and inexpensive quantitative determination of urea or blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and does not require sophisticated laboratory instruments.
