General description

Cornichon (CNIH) is expressed in a wide range of human tissues with different expression levels. It is found abundantly in the heart, liver, skeletal muscle, pancreas, adrenal medulla and cortex, thyroid, testis, spleen, appendix, peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL), and bone marrow but to lesser extent in the brain, placenta, lung, kidney, ovary, small intestine, stomach, lymph node, thymus, and fetal liver.

Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. Biochem/physiol Actions

Cornichon (CNIH) is involved in the epidermal growth factor-like signaling pathway and regulates cytoskeletal organization. It plays an important role in the protein tyrosine kinase pathway, required for the directional localization of signaling agents in T-cell activation. CNIH regulates AMPA (α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid) receptor gating and pharmacology in hippocampal neurons.
