Application

This high-grade complete medium acc. to Ellner is for the cultivation of fastidious microorganisms. It is also used as a base for the preparation of a variety of special media.

Preparation Note

Dissolve 42 g in 1 litre distilled water. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.

Other Notes

Base agar in a medium for isolating Listeria spp. from heavily contaminated material; In a simple plate assay for detection of group A streptococcus proteinase.

Clostridia are relatively large, gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria that can undergo only anaerobic metabolism.

Specific agars and broths support detection and cultivation of Campylobacter, requiring complex media with essential supplements.

Campylobacter spp. are regarded as the leading cause of bacterial gastroenteritis in humans worldwide.
