General description

4ME 16:0 Diether PC or 1,2-di-O-phytanyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is an archaeal phospholipid[1] having two phytane chains attached to the sn-1 and sn-2 positions of the glycerol backbone by ether bonds. It has choline as the alcohol moiety, attached to the phosphate group.[2]

Application

4ME 16:0 Diether PC or 1,2-di-O-phytanyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is suitable for the preparation of multilamellar and giant lipid vesicles.[1] It has also been used as a standard to analyze and compare the archaeal abundances in microbial communities based on the phosphoether lipids (PEL) concentrations.[3]

Ether lipids are components of membrane structure, influencing the fluidity and fusion of biological membranes. They possess antioxidative action and helps reducing oxidative stress.
