General description

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) catalyzes the conversion of glucose-6-phosphate to 6-phosphoglucono-δ-lactone, the first and rate-limiting step of the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP).[1] The PPP pathway critical for maintaining the co-enzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) and for the production of pentose sugars. The NADPH produced is critical for redox regulation via the regeneration of GSH and for providing reducing equivalents for fatty acid biosynthesis. Deficiencies in G6PDH predisposes individuals to non-immune hemolytic anemia.

Application

Suitable for the measurement of Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) activity in various tissues and cells.
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase assay kit has been used in the determination of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) activity[2] and to measure PDH (pyruvate dehydrogenase).

Biochem/physiol Actions

In the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase assay kit, glucose-6-phosphate is oxidized to generate a product which is specifically detected by colorimetric (450 nm) assay. The G6PDH Assay Kit can detect G6PDH activity as low as 0.04mU G6PDH per well.

  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.   3. Is the positive control an enzyme for dehydrogenase?

    1. The positive control is glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase from Leuconostoc mesenteroides, purified from E. coli.
