General description

Citalopram is a bicyclic phthalene derivative.[1] It initiates serotonergic activity, which produces antidepressant action. Citalopram hydrobromide reverses memory impairment.[2] It is used to treat obsessive compulsive disorder,[1] panic disorder, sociophobia and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.[3]

Application

Citalopram hydrobromide has been used:

• to examine its effects on sirt mRNA and mammalian sirtuins (SIRT) expression in mice[4]
• to monitor body temperature and antidepressant-like behavioral responses in the forced swim test for rats[5][6]
• for 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) competition uptake assays[7]
