Biochem/physiol Actions
Chlorophyll ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der oxygenen Photosynthese. In den Photosystemen ist es als Antennenpigment in den Reaktionszentren I und II vorhanden. Chlorophyll a ist ein blau-grünes Pigment, das Licht in den Bereichen 400–450 nm und 640–660 nm absorbiert. Bei der Photosynthese werden Kohlendioxid und Wasser mit der vom Chlorophyll absorbierten Energie in Kohlenhydrate und Sauerstoff umgewandelt. Wenn Chlorophyll Lichtenergie absorbiert, wird ein Elektron im Chlorophyll angeregt und von einem niedrigeren Energieniveau auf ein höheres Energieniveau angehoben. Auf diesem höheren Energieniveau wird das Elektron leichter auf ein anderes Molekül übertragen. Dies setzt eine Kette von Elektronenübertragungsschritten in Gang, die mit der Übertragung eines Elektrons auf Kohlendioxid endet.
