Gene Information

human ... HIST1H1C(3006)

General description

Histone H1 proteins are linker histones that interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes to compact chromatin into higher order structures. There are multiple histone one genes in the histone 1 cluster that produce histone 1 variants. Histone cluster 1, H1c (HIST1H1C) is the H1C variant of histone 1 that is differentially expressed by cells.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide directed towards the middle region of human HIST1H1C

Application

Anti-HIST1H1C polyclonal antibody is used to tag the H1c variant of histone 1 for detection and quantitation by Western blotting and in plasma by immunohistochemical (IHC) techniques. It is used as a probe to determine the differential expression of histone 1, H1c versus other histone 1 proteins during cell differentiation.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Anti-HIST1H1C polyclonal antibody reacts with human, mouse, rat, chicken, and pig H1c variants of histone 1 proteins.
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Two molecules of each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4) form an octamer, around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped in repeating units, called nucleosomes. The linker histone, H1, interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and functions in the compaction of chromatin into higher order structures.Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. This gene is intronless and encodes a member of the histone H1 family. Transcripts from this gene lack polyA tails but instead contain a palindromic termination element. This gene is found in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene.
