Ein wirksames Antioxidans. Fängt hypochlorige Säure, Peroxyl-, Superoxid-, Hydroxyl- und Stickoxidradikale ab Weist außerdem prooxidative Eigenschaften auf, wie seine Fähigkeit, Eisenionen zu reduzieren und reaktive schwefelhaltige Radikale zu erzeugen, die bestimmte Proteine wie α;₁-Antiproteinase und Kreatinkinase schädigen können, zeigt. Kürzlich wurde nachgewiesen, dass DHLA die durch Methylprednisolon und Etoposid ausgelöste Apoptose in Thymozyten der Ratte hemmt.
