Biochem/physiol Actions

Cluster of differentiation 38 (CD38) plays a vital role in oxytocin secretion. In addition, it is also implicated in the regulation of calcium concentration in airway smooth muscle. Aberrations in the gene expression is associated with the development of airway diseases like asthma. CD38 also functions in cell adhesion, signal transduction and calcium signaling. It serves as a potential disease marker for leukemias and myeloma.
