General description

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) contributes to 10-20% of plasma protein and is regarded as one of the most predominant serum protein. It consists of four subclasses: IgG1, IgG2, IgG3 and IgG4. The IgG structure possesses four polypeptide chains containing two identical γ heavy (H) chains and two identical κ or λ light (L) chains of 50 kDa and 25 kDa, respectively.

Application

Anti-Bovine IgG (whole molecule)-FITC antibody produced in rabbit has been used in indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT).

Biochem/physiol Actions

IgG antibody subtype is the most abundant of serum immunoglobulins of the immune system. It is secreted by B cells and is found in blood and extracellular fluids and provides protection from infections caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses. Maternal IgG is transferred to fetus through the placenta that is vital for immune defense of the neonate against infections. The coupling of FITC to Anti- Bovine IgG (whole molecule) antibody allows for the visualization of protein by fluorescent microscopy.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
