General description

Hydroxy naphthol blue disodium salt is a chemical compound belonging to the class of azo dyes commonly used as a pH indicator. It exists as small blue crystals. Hydroxy naphthol blue is suitable for the quantification of metal leaching in metal affinity chromatography. It changes color at pH range 12-13 from blue to reddish pink, in the presence of calcium ions and to deep blue in the presence of disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA).

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. Does this product consist of having Hydroxy Naphthol Blue deposited on crystals of Sodium Chloride in the concentration of about 1%?

    1 answer
    1. Product 219916 is simply Hydroxy naphthol blue disodium salt. The dye is not deposited on crystals of sodium chloride. The product meets the specifications of the American Chemical Society and is suitability tested for calcium determination.

      Helpful?

  2. Can solutions of 219916 (Naphthol Blue disodium salt) be prepared in water and kept for several days at room temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Solution stability studies for products sold as dry dyes are not conducted. The stability of the solution can vary greatly, from being stable for several days, weeks, or even years to failing after a couple of days. It is advisable to prepare the solution fresh and use it on the day of testing. After 1 week, preparing another fresh solution is recommended. Running tests on the freshly prepared solution and previously prepared solutions can help determine their effectiveness over time. If there is any difference between the freshly prepared solution and solutions that were previously prepared, it would provide the necessary insights. This approach is commonly used in research and development to assess solution stability over time.
