Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

Endoplasmic reticulum protein 29 (ERp29) is a chaperone protein encoded by the ERP29 gene in humans. It is a novel factor that can drive mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) and induce cell growth arrest in MDA-MB-231 cells. It regulates MET and epithelial cell integrity in breast cancer cells. ERp29 is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-inducible protein and is highly expressed in several cancers and associated with resistance to oxidative and radiation stress. It may act as a potential biomarker for predicting nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) response to radiotherapy. The molecule facilitates processing and transport of proteins in the early secretory pathway and its over-expression significantly inhibits proliferation and suppresses tumorigenesis by modulating ER stress signaling and the mesenchymal-epithelial transition in breast cancer cells.
