General description
Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a protein associated with cell adhension in a human fetus. The production of CEA usually stops before birth therefore is only present at very low level in healthy adults. Elevated levels of CEA in serum can be associated with some cancers so the it is regularly used as a tumour marker in clinical tests.
Specificity
Specific for Human Carcinoembryonic Antigen. Negative for human albumin, NCA, NCA-2, and PSA, etc
