Galactose-conjugated senolytic prodrug; induces apoptosis in senescence cells through activation of p38 MAPK
SSK1 is a senescence cells specific killing agent that is activated by lysosomal β-galactosidase. SSK1 induces apoptosis in senescence cells through activation of p38 MAPK. Also, it induces mitochondrial DNA damage in senescent cells. In aged mice, SSK1 removes senescence cells in different tissues, attenuated low-grade inflammation and improved physical function.
