Application

Folate Receptor 2 has been used in studies of the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with Methotrexate (MTX). These studies have focused on transport of MTX through folate receptor 2 in RA synovial macrophages.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Folate Receptor 2 is a 38kDa protein that has a high affinity for folic acid and mediates 5-methyltetrahydrofolate to the inside of the cell.

Methotrexate (MTX) plays a pivotal role in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The transport mechanisms with which MTX reaches is target after application are an important part of MTX pharmacology and its concentration in target tissue such as RA

We reported recently that albumin is a suitable drug carrier for targeted delivery of methotrexate (MTX) to tumors. Due to pathophysiological conditions in neoplastic tissue, high amounts of albumin accumulate in tumors and are metabolized by malignant cells. MTX, covalently

To investigate the expression of folate receptors (FR) and reduced folate carrier (RFC) and determine their relevance to methotrexate (MTX) transport in synovial mononuclear cells (SMC) from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Levels of FR and RFC messenger RNA (mRNA)
