General description

Sodium iodide (NaI) is an inorganic salt. It can be prepared by reacting sodium carbonate with iron(II,III) iodide. Chlorotrimethylsilane/Sodium iodide in acetonitrile is a superior reagent than iodotrimethylsilane for the facile cleavage of esters, lactones, carbamates and ethers.

Application

Sodium iodide (NaI) may be used in the preparation of sodium hydroxide-sodium iodide reagent for the modified Winkler method for the determination of dissolved oxygen. It may be used in the preparation of methylene iodide.
