General description

Podocalyxin-like protein 1 is a sialomucin that is involved in the regulation of both cell adhesion and cell morphology through its interactions with several intracellular and at least one extracellular ligand. It is known to play an essential role in the formation and maintenance of podocyte foot processes, in cancer development and aggressiveness and as a marker of undifferentiatted embryonic stem cells. MABD151, a monoclonal antibody generated against human iPS cells, is a novel marker antibody recognizing a type of keratan sulfate lacking oversulfated structure on hiPS cells. MABD151 is a useful molecular probe for disclosing the roles of glycans on the surface of hiPS cells in the maintenance of self-renewal and pluripotency and also as a potent tool for the evaluation and standardization of hiPS cells with different tissue origins and different histories in regenerative medicine (Kawabe K et.al, (2013) Glycobiology. v23, 322–336.
