Claudin-7 is a member of a family of claudins that are tight junction integral membrane proteins with four transmembrane domains and two extracellular loops. Claudin-7 has been shown to be under-expressed in invasive ductal carcinomas and colorectal carcinomas as compared to normal epithelial cells. Claudin-7 differs from other claudins because it has both structural and regulatory functions, regulating the expression of prostate specific antigen.
