General description
End pieces are equipped with porous frits. These can be made up of sintered metal, glass and plastic. The pore diameter and surface structures of the frits should be optimised such as to avoid clogging and abrasion of the chromatographic particles. The frits are made such that, they are easily exchangeable. Frits can also be used to keep the packing material in place.
Application
Polyethylene frits may be used for glass columns to conduct filtration experiments with bacterial suspensions. PTFE frits may be used for preparative chromatography and solid phase extraction for borosilicate columns.
